What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Chronic fatigue syndrome, also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, is a complex disorder that is characterized by persistent fatigue that is not improved by rest. While the exact cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is not fully understood, research suggests that it may involve a combination of genetic, environmental, and immune system factors. Another less common contributor to chronic fatigue syndrome is misalignments in the upper cervical spine.

Signs and Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Individuals who suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome experience periods of extreme fatigue that continue to linger despite extended periods of rest. Other commonly experienced symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, chest pain, diarrhea, dizziness, nausea, sensitivity to light, sound, noise, or odors, earaches, irritable bowel syndrome, or dry mouth and throat.

How the Upper Cervical Spine Affects Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

The exact cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is still largely unclear. However, there is strong evidence to suggest that problems in the upper cervical spine may play a role in the development of chronic fatigue syndrome. This link is thought to have something to do with the close connection between the upper cervical spine and the clusters of nerves that branch from the spinal cord.

If a vertebra in the upper cervical spine is out of alignment, it can push on and compress the surrounding nerves. In turn, this can disrupt the transmission and reception of electrical signals traveling around the body and brain. Left untreated, misalignment-induced dysfunction in the nervous system can lead to the development of a range of chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms. For example, the excessive production of sleep hormones, such as melatonin, can trigger long-term feelings of fatigue and exhaustion.

How Our Treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Works

Upper Spine Knoxville is a chiropractic treatment center that specializes in using upper cervical chiropractic correction techniques to help treat conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome. Our resident upper cervical chiropractic specialist, Dr. Bejian Shamloo, approaches treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome from the perspective of restoring balance and alignment to the upper cervical spine.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Shamloo will perform a number of advanced diagnostic tests to observe your upper cervical spine. With the use of advanced 3D imaging and infrared thermography, Dr. Shamloo can pinpoint the exact location and angle of spinal misalignments that could be triggering chronic fatigue syndrome.

Following your diagnosis, Dr. Shamloo will use traditional chiropractic correction techniques to restore the vertebrae back to their natural alignment. By realigning the spinal column, the compression, irritation, and pinching of the spinal nerves can be relieved and the body can begin to heal itself. With improved balance and alignment in the upper cervical spine, many of our patients have reported a significant improvement in their chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms.

If chronic fatigue syndrome is making it difficult to live your life the way you want, Dr. Shamloo can help. Dr. Shamloo services patients with upper cervical chiropractic treatments across Knoxville, Alcoa, Maryville, Farragut, Clinton, Oak Ridge, Sevierville, Lenoir City, Karns, Hardin Valley, Powell, Halls, and Fountain City in Tennessee, as well as the surrounding areas.
