What is Dizziness?
When dizzy, you may feel unsteady or have trouble getting your balance. There are many possible causes of dizziness, and it is something that most people will experience at one time or another. You can become dizzy from illnesses like the flu, from taking certain medications, or if you go on a spinning ride. In most cases, dizziness will not be due to serious problems and will pass quickly.
If you experience bouts of dizziness routinely, you should not take it lightly. Getting dizzy may indicate there is an underlying health problem.
Signs and Symptoms of Dizziness
Dizziness can vary in severity from case to case. For some people, it may be just a feeling of mild lightheadedness. Others may feel unsteady or like they're floating. In more serious cases, dizziness can make it hard to get your balance. You may be at risk of falling and feel as though the room is spinning around you.
Dizziness can induce other symptoms as well. Being dizzy may cause you to feel weak, confused, or cause you to sweat. It may induce nausea or vomiting.
How the Upper Cervical Spine Effects Dizziness
The upper cervical spine starts at the base of the skull, near where the brain stem connects to the spinal cord to form the central nervous system. There are many clusters of delicate nerves and fine tubes, known as eustachian tubes, in this area as well.
The neck is a sensitive area; it is prone to injury from accidents or poor posture. Injuries may cause the vertebrae in the upper cervical spine to become misaligned. When this happens, the area will often become inflammed and may put pressure on the nerves or eustachian tubes. This can lead to dizziness and other balance disorders.

It is common for our clients to notice immediate relief from symptoms such as dizziness. More importantly, corrections reduce inflammation and allow the body to begin a path to healing. Follow-up visits will ensure the spine remains in the correct alignment.
